Lost in Translation?

Removing barriers to collaboration among communities, health professionals, and academic researchers.

From patients to policymakers, many people have recognized the problem of translating research into practice and the typical disconnect between community needs and academic research interests. How can we improve the translation of research into action to address health disparities?  What do academic researchers need to understand about community needs and the priorities of key stakeholders? How can health care providers, government agencies, community groups and researchers best work together to promote evidence-based healthcare in vulnerable populations and improve the social determinants of health?

Health Promoting Interventions:

From changing knowledge to changing behavior.

Education-based public health campaigns to promote healthy eating, physical activity, reduce smoking, and address other risk factors often fail to produce sustained changes in behavior. What new approaches, research, and collaborations are needed to effect population-level improvements in these behaviors and promote the public’s health? Moreover, what are the key considerations for effective interventions that enable healthy living in disadvantaged populations and increase health equity?

The workshop is free and open people who work with health disparity populations, WSU faculty, and graduate students. The overall goal is to partnership-building between the university and community-based organizations. Space is limited so please register by September 10th.

Lunch will be provided.

This workshop is sponsored by WSU’s Health Equity Research Center(HERC), a WSU Grand Challenge funded center. For more information about HERC and the workshop please contact JP Strozewski: jstrozewski@wsu.edu
